Skincare: 5 tips to get clear and healthy skin ♥

Hi Folks!

Thought I'd start this journey with a topic extremely close to my heart, Skincare. How your skin is can play a vital role in how you perceive yourself (self esteem and confidence). I don't know about you but when I have a bad skin day, all I want to do is go back to bed and pull the covers over my head! So here are my simple 5 tips to getting clearer, more healthier skin.

1)      Know your skin type

There are 5 types of facial skin types; combination, dry, oily, sensitive and normal. In order to find your right cleanser and moisturizer, you need to know what type of facial skin type you have so you can stay away from the ingredients that may cause any break outs. Those with oily, dry, sensitive and normal skin tend to know their skin type but those with combination skin; your skin type is more difficult to distinguish.

Most people are said to fall into the combination skin type which means you have two different facial skin types at any given time. For example, I have an oily T zone (my problem areas is my forehead and chin) but the rest of my face is considered “normal”. Now this is EXTREMELY annoying because us combination skin people have to use different products to different aspects of our skin.  If you’d want a guide to the right cleanser and moisturiser for your skin type, do let me know J

2)      EXFOLIATE

Now this tip is often forgotten and rarely stressed. Exfoliating is key for your way to clear and healthier looking skin. I suggest exfoliating your skin once a week because, if done frequently, it can be extremely irritable to your skin especially if you have sensitive skin. Your choice of product to exfoliate is dependent on your facial skin type again but you can use your weekly cleanser. The only difference between cleansing and exfoliating is that you would use a brush. Now I’m not wealthy so I can’t afford a Clarisonic but I suggest using Body Shop’s facial brush (retails at only £4!) to scrub away all the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin and help dislodge blackheads leaving your skin smoother, firmer and clearer. If you really want to save the coins, you can use a toothbrush! Does work honest!

3)      Toners are NOT necessary

To say I cannot live without my Lush Tea Tree Toner would be understatement but ladies and gents if you don’t have oily skin, a toner is not necessary. It just adds another step and expense to your regime. I have heard people say that their toner helps to remove any residual make up left on your face after cleansing but I feel that any creamy cleanser (I suggest Sk:n Vitamin Rich Cleanser which retails at £11 at Boots) does the trick. Also toners will reduce the appearance of your pores by swelling the tissue around the pores but so does a moisturizer.

4)      Drink 1 litre of water a day

I don’t know about you ladies and gents but I hate when someone tells me this but it is the truth. Keeping your body hydrated plays wonders on your skin. Our skin is the largest organ on our body and as organ, the skin consists of cells. Drinking plenty of water keeps your body hydrated and your cells working at their peak; however, no water leads to dehydration which can leave your skin dry, tight and flaky.

5)      Cleanse and moisturize twice a day

Cleansing and moisturizing twice a day is a must! One difference between a day and night skincare regime is to use different moisturizer. However, this is considered a myth to most. Either way, cleanse and moisturize twice a day (morning and night) so that it gives your skin a chance to heal and breathe as well as keep those spots at bay.

That's all ladies and gents! Be sure to leave any comments if you want a follow up to this point i.e. the best and affordable skin care products or my own skincare routine ☺
